Monday, 14. The forerunner of diversity training, Elliot rose to prominence after a mythical 1992 appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show that left audience members stunned by their own subconscious biases. Elliot’s appearance on the show, in which she ran the now-famous»Brown Eyes – Blue Eyes» exercise, has been seen by millions of people across the nation. The practice has since become the foundation for much of what’s currently considered diversity and inclusion training. Elliot has worked closely with corporations such as General Electric, Exxon, AT&T, and IBM, and has sponsored lectures into the FBI, IRS, U. S. Navy, U. Department of Education, and also the U. Postal Service. The globally recognized lecturer is a recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education for her work exposing prejudice and bigotry for what it is: an absurd course system based upon strictly random things. The York presentation and dialogue, during which Elliot will present a lecture from her home in Iowa and accept questions out of scientists, will be held via Zoom and on The Parliament Arts Organization’s Facebook page.
